Strangers on a Train – The Key Part 1: The Prophecy (1990)

Drums, drums, my kingdom for some freaking drums!!!  At least a cymbal crash…a tom tom…the occasional snare drum. PLEASE!?!?!?!

Nope, nada, zilch, zero, nothing = YAWN!!!!!!!!!!!

What could have been a decent release, since the melodies aren’t too bad, the keyboardist is excellent, and the singer has a pretty enough voice (the reason for the single star), is completely ruined by the lack of drums. This sounds like elevator muzak by a bunch of highly talented musicians that, in other bands, released some truly decent material. But here? What the hell were they thinking???

Rest in Silence – Mourning After Tomorrow (2011)

The music and overall musicianship are pretty good, but the vocals are simply horrific!!! The guy has one of the weirdest voices I’ve ever heard, and it’s annoying as all heck!!!  I couldn’t even make it past the 4th song.

Avoid at all costs! Just dreadful.

Gates of Winter – Lux Aeterna (2008)

Some decent power/progressive metal music absolutely DESTROYED by horrific growls that are supposed to be considered “vocals.”  The instrumental passages are fairly good, but the “vocal” passages are annoying as all hell. Why bands insist on these types of “vocals” is beyond my understanding. WRETCHED!

Alice Cooper – Trash (1989)

The album’s title should have been a warning. This is Alice Cooper doing Bon Jovi, plain and simple. Songwriter Desmond Child was both a blessing and a curse to music…sure, his songs helped put Bon Jovi on the map, but unfortunately, he kept writing the same darned songs over and over and over and over and over again, which is why this entire album sounds like “You Give Love A Bad Name, Part 187.”

The album gets a single star only because it’s Alice Cooper…on the flip side, the album loses 4 stars since a gifted, creative, true rock legend like Alice Cooper should have known better than to join forces with such a tedious and uninspired songster such as Desmond Child. Yes, utter trash!

Aspire – In Defiance Of Fortune (2009)

HORRIBLY out-of-tune vocalist. Spine-tingling, vomit-inducing, outrageously, wretchedly, atrociously HORRID!!! Destroys any possible hope for this band. Seriously, how the musicians, relatives of the band, their friends, the next door neighbor’s howling dogs, could NOT have said something constructive to the vocalist, could have allowed the band to issue these tracks with such warbling, flat, disgusting vocal lines, is beyond reasoning. Is everyone associated with them completely tone deaf??? They should “aspire” to get a new vocalist ASAP or their “aspirations” of stardom will never come true.
